South Carolina’s blowout loss to UConn was excruciatingly painful to watch.
“We just got punked today. It’s very much embarrassing,” Te-Hina Paopao said afterward. Yep. That’s a spot-on assessment.
Dawn Staley’s squad was seemingly beat in nearly every facet: scoring from the 3-point line, buckets in the paint, hustle plays—you name it, the Gamecocks had no answer for it.
The worst was probably their defense. If a UConn player wanted to score, they could, including Azzi Fudd, who scored a blistering 18 points in the third quarter alone.
How would Staley grade her team’s effort on Sunday? Well, she didn’t hold back. “Since we’re on a higher education campus, ‘F,’” she said bluntly.
“This season is a long season. Right? You play a team like Uconn—like now—you win … It may have some ill effect to the next game. You lose, and it definitely will wake you up.”
